At the end of the day, if you don’t believe in you…your potential clients won’t either.  Confidence is a BIG thing!

Believing in yourself affects how your clients see you…or don’t see you. If you do not feel or show confidence in your abilities, then why should they? We can be our biggest obstacle to overcome. We ask ourselves questions like, “What is wrong with me?” or tell ourselves that we are not good enough and compare ourselves with others. Comparing our behind the scenes with someone else’s highlight reel is a common mistake we all make.

Social media has a lot of positives and is a very important tool for interacting with others – both on a business and personal level. However, if not approached with an accurate perspective, it can also be very damaging. Using it as a form of self-validation for someone who already is struggling with self-confidence or comparison doesn’t work. Very rarely does one get the “full “story from social media. Perhaps we see the big “win” or success, but not the struggle or numerous failures it took to get there. For me, I am more interested in their struggles. I want to know how they failed and made a comeback because they didn’t give up. The person we see as full of confidence and inspiring has had many struggles and worked very hard to get where he/she is today. These details are what we describe as behind the scenes and are not always seen or known about by the viewers. We know our behind the scenes details vividly, but not everyone else’s.

If left unchecked, this practise can cause significant long-term damage to our self-confidence that will show itself in every area of our lives. One proven method to offset this is to write down 5-6 positive affirmations about yourself and read them twice a day for the next two weeks.  Examples of these can be, “I am on my way to becoming a great problem-solver and am good at it” or “I have achieved many successes throughout my career, and I have the training and education to be successful, therefore I am a successful, intelligent Entrepreneur”.

The mind is a powerful thing, unfortunately that power is not always positive. It can paralyze us with fear and cause us to doubt ourselves and our abilities. We must be very careful in how we talk to ourselves. Never put yourself down after making a mistake. Stay positive and affirmative.

It is important also to surround yourself with positive, like-minded people. Being part of a group with common goals and interests can be very helpful. Often, being an Entrepreneur can be very lonely, depending on what you do and your level of interaction with others. There are numerous support groups for Entrepreneurs. Check our ours here! Visit these groups until you find the right one for you. Associating and learning from fellow Entrepreneurs allows you access to a lot of their behind the scenes information as well as their struggles. It allows you to learn from others’ failures and successes. It also allows you to brain-storm different business ideas with them and get immediate, honest feedback.

If you find yourself lacking in self-confidence and often comparing yourself and your success to others, stop now and replace it with your list of positive affirmations.

You got this and don’t you ever forget it!
